Flowmeter is an instrument that measures the linear, nonlinear, mass or volumetric, rates of a liquid or a gas.Flow measurement is the movement of bulk fluid in quantification. It can be measured in a number of ways.
ULTRASONIC METER
An ultrasonic meter is a flow meter which measures any kind of liquid or gas velocity through a pipe with the help of ultrasonic transducers. However, sometimes the temperature, viscosity or density of the medium which is flowing affects the results. The maintenance costs are not much because there are no moving parts. It is also possible to measure liquid levels with the ultrasonic meter. The flow rate and the total discharge can be determined with the measurement level and the pipe size. There are three different types of flow meters that work with ultrasonic meters, namely, transmission flow meters, reflection flow meters and open-channel flow meters.
There are a few types of ultrasonic meters:
Transit-Time Flow meter: The transit-time flow meter is the most commonly used flow meter and is used for gases and liquids.
Transit-Time Clamp-On Flow meter: Transit-time clamp-on flow meters, which are non-intrusive, are ultrasonic transducers that are clamped on the outside of walls for clamp-on flow measurement.
Doppler flow meter: Liquids with bubbles, slurries, gases with particles which reflect sound or clean liquids with turbulent single phases, are all measured with a Doppler flow meter.
Ultrasonic Open Channel Flow meter: Measurement of river and stream flows is done by an ultrasonic open channel flow meter.
